Community Governance

Led by Chief Alfred Joseph, the Council of the Akisqnuk First Nation sets the strategic operating direction of the First Nation. Council holds bi-weekly Chief and Council meetings which begin every second Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Chief and Council meetings are open for Akisqnuk First Nation members to attend as observers, or as a delegation if they contact Administrative Assistant Yvonne Armstrong at least one week prior to the meeting to request to be added to the agenda. In addition to their many duties at the First Nation, each Council member has a portfolio with the Ktunaxa Nation Council, the Tribal Council for the four Ktunaxa communities in Canada.
